Waste watching the Chameleon way (10/07/2002)
Chameleon Net, the independent London-based e-commerce company have won the project to overhaul the website of Waste Watch, the UK's leading recycling charity.
Used by over a million people a year, the site has grown both in public appeal and in the breadth of material and information offered, but now needs a revamp to streamline the information and allow the site to grow in a struictured way as it continues to put across its important message.
Waste Watch's marketing officer, Dagmar Schmidt, said "Our website is at the heart of our mission to educate everyone on the importance of the three R's; that is, recycling, reducing and re-using. Chameleon Net will perform a vital role in ensuring that the redeveloped site connects with the disparate groups of people who depend on it for information; from school children to local authorities, and from business users to our own staff and volunteers."
Chameleon's Operations Director, Chris Thorn, added "Like so many successful websites Waste Watch have evolved their content to keep pace with increasing demand for information and material. The site has got to the point where the content needs to be completely re-structured and then a new site designed and organised in a way that is attractive, friendly and fast."
The new site, www.wastewatch.org.uk, which will go live in the autumn will feature new content, structure and navigation.
Chameleon Net aims to incorporate a state-of-the-art 'in-line content management system'. Chris Thorn states "this system will allow the site administrators to make immediate changes to many parts of the site using a template that is overlaid onto the existing site; this allows changes to be viewed exactly as anyone accessing the site would see them before they go live".
Dagmar Schmidt adds "Usability of the new site and the capability for non-technical staff to update content will be two of the most important success factors of the project. Chameleon Net were chosen for their flexibility, experience of building sophisticated content management systems, their project management skills and hosting capabilities."
